Clarion FREE Thanksgiving Meal

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27

CLARION:  A Community Thanksgiving Dinner is set for noon on Thursday, November 27th, at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School.  The meal is sponsored by the Clarion Ministerial Association and, while the meal is FREE, tickets should be picked up by Monday, November 24th, at Clarion Super Foods for a head count.  Don't eat alone; join in the festivities.  A freewill offering will be accepted but is not required to eat.

Susie McEntire Christmas concert

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17

HUMBOLDT:  A Christmas concert, featuring Inspirational Country Artist Susie McEntire, will be held at the R. Wesley Auditorium at the Humboldt High School Wednesday night, December 17th, at 7 PM.  The tickets will be on sale at the First State Bank in Humboldt and the Humboldt Engraving and Gifts in dowtown Humboldt.  Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the YWCA.  The doors will open at 6 PM.

Algona Nativity Sceene

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31

ALGONA:  The Internationally Famous Kaib Nativity Scene, which has half-life sized figures of the Nativity crafted by the German prisoners of war while they were interned at the Algona prisoner of war camp in 1945, is celebrating 70 continuous years of showing beginning Monday, December 1st, and will continue on through December 31st.  The showing location is at Kossuth County Fairgrounds just West of Highway 169 at the South edge of Algona and the days and times are: Saturdays and Weekdays from 2 PM to 8 PM, Sundays and Christmas Day from Noon to 8 PM, and will close at 6 PM on December 31st.  Buses are welcome and, to make arrangements, call Marvin at 515-295-7519.


MOMs group

FRIDAYS, SEPTEMBER 5 THROUGH MAY

FORT DODGE:  The Moms group is a faith based organization that meets the first and third Fridays of each month September 5th through May from 9 to 11 AM at Saint Olaf Lutheran Church located at 239 North 11th Street in Fort Dodge.  There is childcare and food at each meeting along with devotions, crafts, fun activities, topics and time to relax.  All moms are welcome and for more information visit the website at www.meetup.com/fdmoms.

ALGONA:  The First Presbyterian Church of Algona invites you to join other senior citizens on the second Sunday of the month at 3 PM to participate in Sunday Senior Fellowship.  Enjoy FREE fun, fellowship, and food.  Call 515-295-2226 to request additional information. 

BLAIRSBURG:  Ladies of all fitness levels can have fun getting physically and spiritually fit on Saturdays at MAC FIT.  A certified instructor will help develop an effective workout plan, and a Bible study and fellowship will encourage all who attend.  MAC FIT is from 8:30 to 10 AM at Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg.  Call 515-325-6210 for more information.

CLARION:  The Dwelling Place in Clarion, located at 912 Central Ave, has community prayer meetings the first Thursday of each month from noon to 1 PM.

CLARION:  "Market in the Park," featuring Clarion's local farmers and vendors, will begin Saturday, May 17th, from 9 to 11 AM at the east side of Gazebo Park and continue each Saturday until October 11th.  Call 515-532-2916 for more information.  

CLARION:  A Caregivers' Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at the Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center.  

CLARION:  Toastmasters meetings can help you develop strong communication skills. Wright On Toastmasters meets every Friday from 7 to 8 AM at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion at the boardroom across from Widflower Cafe. Visit them to see what Toastmasters can do for you.  

EAGLE GROVE:  The Farmers Market in Eagle Grove will be held every Friday, from June 6th through October 24th, from 3 to 6 PM at 117 South Commercial.

EAGLE GROVE: First Baptist Church of Eagle Grove has a full calendar of events scheduled for every Sunday night of the month.  The 1st Sunday is "Old Fashioned Prayer Time."  The 2nd Sunday is "Bible Topic Talks" with open discussions.  The 3rd Sunday is "Movie Night."  The 4th Sunday is "Sing Time." (Bring your musical instruments and play along with the singing.)  All events are open to the community and begin at 6 PM.  First Baptist is located 1210 S. EAGLE GROVE:  The 2014 to 2015 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program has been established to help homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs. Applications will be taken October 1st, 2014 to April 30th, 2015.  For guidelines and an appointment in Wright County call upper Des Moines Outreach Office at 515-448-3704. FORT DODGE:  Fort Dodge Community Choir hosts praise and worship services at Coppin Chapel every other Sunday.  The choir is also available to perform at other churches.

FORT DODGE:  All are welcome to attend a special meeting to pray for Fort Dodge and the surrounding area every Wednesday at 12:12 PM for half an hour. FORT DODGE:  Blanden Memorial Art Museum in Fort Dodge hosts a FREE family art day on the first Saturday of every month from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  Families will be provided with art materials and instructions to create a project to take home that day.  For more information, call 515-573-2316.

FORT DODGE:  Those with a heart for prison ministry are encouraged to contact the Church of the Damascus Road for information about ministering to the imprisoned or becoming apart of the Outside Church Council.  The council meets every third Wednesday of the month.  Call 515-955-3579 for details.

FORT DODGE:  New Covenant Christian Church in Fort Dodge has a women's group on the first Saturday of every month at 9 AM.  The men's group meets at 8 AM on the second Saturday of each month.  They are reading "Running with the Giants."  Call 515-955-6222 for more information.

FORT DODGE:  St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge has a women's Bible study on Mondays at 1:30 PM in the church library.  The men's Bible study meets on Mondays at 6:30 PM in the church board room.  Another Men's Bible class meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 AM in Conference Room number 1. 

GOLDFIELD:  Crossroads Youth and Family Center in Goldfield is open for activities and for kids to hang out on Friday and Saturday nights.  Kids 8th grade and younger are welcome from 7 to 9 PM.  Youth in 9th grade through college age are welcome from 7 PM to midnight. 

OTHO:  The Webster County Museum in Otho is open on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM with admission by donation.  Volunteers are also needed.  Contact Phyllis at 515-972-4544 during museum hours or 515-972-4804 at other times.
